GOOD MORNING POSTMAN FANS!
Ok, so I had a little brain gas last Friday, thinking it was
Memorial day weekend. Sorry I was a little tad bit off based on
that, wouldn't be the first time. However, there is something signifcant
to the weekend that IS noteworthy. They held the Kentucky Derby
yesterday. My 85 year old momma, who has lived in Iowa now for
over 50 years, grew up in Louisville, Kentucky. Fact is, she lived
just a few blocks from the Downs, almost in its shadow.
And while she has been unable to attend the derby personally for
many years, she never fails to watch the Kentucky Derby every year
on the tube. Started in 1875,it is the longest continual horse race
that has not missed any years since then. My momma, in fact,
still buys a new hat every year in celebration. If you are not familiar with the
race, the ladies and their new hats, well, its just one of those southern things
about the Derby. If u didn't grow up south of the Dixon, you just
wouldn't unnerstand. She sits in her living room watching the tube,
and when they play the state anthem,"Old Kentucky home " just b4
the race, she puts her new hat on and belts the tune out at the top
of her lungs. Momma really has a pretty voice, but I sortof hope the
neighbors don't hear her some year as the fellas in the white coats may
come to get her. But that is another story. Anyways, the track was defined
as "sloppy" yesterday as rainy conditions earlier in the day had turned Churchhill Downs,
mostly into a series of mud puddles. Amazingly, inspite of it, the
horses made it up to speeds past 40 mph. And btw, if you told your bookie
to place your money on "Orb" you are likely doing a little celebration
this weekend, He came in first with odds of 6 to 1. if  you did not, well
don't worry bunky, Monday is coming and u can get back to work:)

We do hope you enjoy today's issue
Cordially

Happy Cinco de Mayo
Most people don't know that back in 1912, Hellmann's mayonnaise was
manufactured in England. In fact, the Titanic was carrying 12,000 jars
of the condiment scheduled for delivery in Vera Cruz, Mexico, which was
to be the next port of call for the great ship after its stop in New
York. This would have been the largest single shipment of mayonnaise
ever delivered to Mexico. But as we know, the great ship did not make
it to New York. The ship hit an iceberg and sank. The people of
Mexico, who were crazy about mayonnaise, and were eagerly awaiting its
delivery, were disconsolate at the loss. Their anguish was so great,
that they declared a National Day of Mourning.

The National Day of Mourning occurs each year on May 5th and is known,
of course, as -
Sinko De Mayo.
