THE POSTMAN'S CORNER
where the world goes for its daily dose of humor

It is impossible to defeat an ignorant man in argument.
William G. McAdoo

GOOD MORNING POSTMAN FANS!
Is it not amazing how technoledgy has changed from the way
we baby boomers remember it "Back in the day"? Most notable
is the disappearance of the rotary wall phone that once was
a mainstay of every household...And of course, if you think
about tv and ask us what we did for entertainment with only
3 or 4 channels, you forget we had something even better.
How many of you olde phartes remember the "party line"?
Believe it or not, there was a day when 4 families shared one
telephone line. 1 ring, is yours 2 rings, was Mr Jones down
the road, 3 rings, the Smiths up the road, and 4 rings was
the Thompsons who lived "across the section." No matter the
number of rings, if the phone jingled, I remember momma would
drop whatever she was doing to race to the telephone. Not that
all the calls were hers. No, she said the best entertainment was
not the soap operas on tv, but eaves dropping on all the neighbors
as they talked. :) There were no dvrs, vcrs or on demand. Gunsmoke
came on at 7pm on Monday night, a favorite of mom and dad. Wheras
Gilligans Island ran on the other channel , You can guess who
won that argument. Anyways, I digress from the subject. You now
know why it was back then that everyone knew everybody
elses business. In more recent years, if you mention things
like a pager, or a phone card, the x and y generation will look at
you with a blank stare. And then there was that famous old comment,
"Are you done using the internet? well when you gonna finish?
I wanna make a phone call." We had something in the day of dial up
which was called call wave. it was like caller id that worked on
your pc and you could tell if someone was calling the house phone
Nowadays, who even has a house phone? Aside from us oldsters?
I read an article recently which said
that one of the newest tech changes will be the death of the pc.
If you read the bloggers, they say that the quest for smaller
devices such as iphones and tablets will eventually replace the
desk top and laptop. Altho the desk top seems to already be a
thing of the past. But they forget, for most of us oldsters,
well at least for myself, I cannot seem to get my thumbs to wrap
around them silly tiny buttons which is why I do not own those little
biddy things with the internet. Maybe its genetic evolution. But
the screen? OMG. I have to squint just to see the small screen of
my laptop. !!! I suspect that before the pc truly dies, that
most of the baby boomer generation will have to be gone as well.
Ironic is it not? Why do we yearn for the small devices when it
comes to the internet, but when it comes to tv, we want a 47
inch screen? Makes no sense.
TRUST ME!!...s' truth!

We do hope you enjoy today's issue!
