Hi Friends-

It's less than 2 weeks until Hurry Slowly returns with an all-start lineup for Season Two! In the meantime, a back catalog of 30 episodes awaits if you're not all caught up. : )

In other news, here's the most thought-provoking articles, ideas, and books that I've consumed of late...

The anxiety economy. A rather disturbing piece from Vox about people making bank off your worries: "Gravity, for instance, was able to expand its line to include melatonin spray, weighted sleep masks, a cooling duvet, a collection of infrared-ray-emitting loungewear that promises to help with muscle recovery, and an upcoming 'mindful alarm clock,' which lets you sleep with your phone outside your bedroom but still connect to your phone so that a select few people will be able to reach you in an emergency."

(Related: This piece on how the wellness industry is just another graft.)

Introverts don't actually like being alone. An interesting take on introversion and the idea of constructive solitude: "There was no evidence that introverts enjoyed solitude more than extraverts. Rather, the most important trait related to liking one's own company was having strong 'dispositional autonomy.'"

Conversations with friends. This novel by Sally Rooney was one of my favorite recent reads — largely because it accurately portrays how much of a role digital communications play in our relationships these days. A choice quote I've been thinking about: "You underestimate your own power so you don't have to blame yourself for treating other people badly."

On hearing hard truths. I totally agree with this sentiment from Adam Grant, who will be my first guest on season two of Hurry Slowly: "How well you take criticism depends less on the message and more on your relationship with the messenger."

The tech equity gap. This piece is full of upsetting stats: "Women make up 33% of the combined founder and employee workforce but hold just 9% of the equity value. The other 91% belongs to men."

Effort shock. "It isn't so much that geniuses make it look easy; it's that they make it look it fast."

+ It's never too late for your career to peak.

+ Toni Morrison's writing routine.

+ The Bob Ross challenge.

+ Habits vs workflows.
