This week
I find myself grateful to no longer be a weekly columnist in this moment, because I don't know how I would have pivoted directly from crying over my laptop while streaming Christine Blasey Ford's testimony to thinking of some kind of angle from which to craft a fresh or surprising opinion about it. None of my feelings or opinions are fresh or surprising. I am in awe of her bravery. I consider her—like Anita Hill before her—a hero. I feel a general sense of hopelessness about this man's confirmation to the Supreme Court, but that didn't stop me from emailing every Senator who has ever represented me to demand a NO vote. If you're a survivor of sexual violence, I can't imagine how hard this week has been for you. I'm holding you in my heart. Whether you are speaking the truth in public or in private or just to yourself as you move toward healing, you're a hero to me, too.

On the podcast, we talked to Ai-jen Poo of the National Domestic Workers Alliance, who is a genius through and through. She talked about the caregiving crunch and how to make the MeToo movement relevant to people working in all professions.

I'm reading
The things men do for other men. What happened when Deborah Copaken called and confronted the man who assaulted her decades earlier. The existential void of Instagrammable "museums", "factories" and "mansions." Profiles of Tracy K. SmithMaya Rudolph, and Bradley Cooper. RIP the celebrity profile. What to do with the art of a man more monstrous than the monster he created? What's the difference between a frat and a gang? On learning to set boundaries. The true cost of working at Disneyland. Payday loans are coming for everyone. McDonald's workers went on strike to protest sexual harassment on the job. What's next for #MeToo? Who gets to decide how trans stories are told? "The idea of calling myself yellow stirs in the pit of my stomach, the same place where bellyaches and excitement form." Everything you know about obesity is wrong.

I'm looking & listening
The secret life of plants. The Daily revisits the Clarence Thomas confirmation hearings, and what happened to Anita Hill. Beto O'Rourke on what he'd do for black women in Texas. Siblings record a campaign ad against their brother.

GIFspiration
When your lawyers hear a blatant lie.

I endorse
Checking in on everyone you love who is a survivor of sexual violence. Reiterating your support for them. Sending a little extra love their way.
