Summer brains

Hey y'all,

Here are 10 things I thought were worth sharing this week:

  1. Summer is for reading! (Here's a big list of my favorite books if you need it.) I wrote about library tourism and why we need readers more than ever. (Summer is also for listening to music in mono and lounging around with your squad.)

  2. My wife and I are taking turns reading David Sedaris's new collection, Calypso. (I wrote about Sedaris's diary technique and the importance of revisiting notebooks.)

  3. Good Twitter feed: @womensart1

  4. Why did we ever leave Mister Rogers' Neighborhood?

  5. Speaking of great Americans from Pittsburgh: While lettering, drawing, and photoshopping, I rewatched the excellent 4-hour American Masters on Andy Warhol. (Here are some notes.)

  6. A 1,230-year-old tree is growing again.

  7. Patti Smith is on Instagram.

  8. Ear candy: I love the newest Parquet Courts record, Wike Awake! They keep getting better and better. Watch their KEXP session, and, if you like that, this live show, which includes a Ramones cover on omnichord.

  9. Eye candy: Coco is streaming on Netflix.

  10. RIP Stewart Lupton. Here's a remembrance from his friend and former bandmate, Walter Martin. (Part of the Jonathan Fire*Eater story is told in Lizzy Goodman's fun history of the 2000s NYC rock scene, Meet Me In The Bathroom.)
