Hi Friend-
It's Jocelyn again. Back to share more about what I consider to be one of the great evils of the modern age — a little hobgoblin that I call "productivity shame."
While I'm guessing that this phrase probably has an immediate, intuitive resonance for you, let me explain what I mean by it…
Productivity shame is the toxic cycle that we find ourselves in again and again, where we set an utterly unrealistic goal or schedule, and then we beat ourselves up when we fail to meet it.
It is an inevitable byproduct of grind culture.
We are taught at every turn to expect more, better, faster — and when our minds and bodies can't live up to our unrealistic expectations for our performance, we feel ashamed. We feel like we've squandered our time. We feel like we aren't living up to our potential.
Productivity shame is the persistent, ambient dissatisfaction that we project onto ourselves out of the belief that we're not doing enough.
And, honestly, it's the worst.
But if we want to eradicate productivity shame, we have to start by going to the root of the problem. We have to understand where it comes from and how it shows up, so that we can start to reframe our stories around it.
Which is why I recorded a special mini-podcast that goes into more detail about how we can identify productivity shame and relate to it more consciously.
So pop in those earbuds, and let's dive in. Afterwards, you can come back to this email to see how RESET has helped past students release their productivity shame.
Tune into my 16-minute podcast on how to identify and eradicate productivity shame →
RESET will give you the tools necessary to let go of productivity shame.
It will help you recalibrate your strategies for structuring your workday, learn how to set boundaries and say no, and generate creative work that feeds you. It will help you let go of the shame of "never doing enough" and lean into celebrating your progress and feeling like the work you do has meaning.
But I'm not going to ask you to take my word for it.
Here are some of the stories past students have told me about how RESET changed the way they approached their work:
"RESET mends the dissonance between tiny tasks and big dreams. It helped me see a path forward and gave me the tools to refine my process as projects unfold. I feel like I'm accomplishing more and understanding what is possible to ask of myself in a given workday. Daily tasks feel meaningful even if they are small actions." —Sarah Lochhead, Director
"I feel much more relaxed and in control of my workday. And I no longer feel overwhelmed, inadequate, frantic, or like I'm missing something. I've taken a mountain of other productivity courses, but RESET is the only one that has helped me achieve this feeling." —Jon Surratt, Product Manager
"Prior to taking this course, I had some guilt around my creative process because I wasn't working in the way, or at the speed, that others might want me to. RESET has given me confidence in my creative process and helped me define and honor the way I want to work." —Angie Wheeler, Entrepreneur
"RESET is empowering me to go slower, not pile too much on my plate, and know that my to-do list will still be here tomorrow. I feel supported in taking my work seriously and pursuing my goals. It's given me the comforting feeling that everything is going to be okay." —Doris Fullgrabe, Artist
