Summer Bookworm Issue

Hello Wonderful.
We've been promising you a Non-Fiction reading list and we've finally finished reading them all just in time for summer. Amy Parker, our Chief Exec here at The What, celebrates a birthday this Saturday so we're cutting out early on Friday for an endless brunch, a tradition that starts in the morning and ends whenever. Happy Birthday Amy! Thanks for taking care of business and keeping TW alive.

100% Editorial picks. No pay for play. Ever.

The Reads.  Our Non-Fiction reading list is fresh out of the oven of our minds.

The Beach.  We also put together a quick fiction reading list with easy breezy beach reads that won't send you into a catatonic spiral.

The Ticket.  Registration for our very first women's conference in San Francisco is open to the public. Come connect with us and 350 intellectually curious, compassionate, and cool women at The What Summit in October. Earlybird tickets went quickly but our TW Connector and Founder's Circle tickets are available here.

The Zodiac. And now for a little fun. Want to know how compatible are you with your business partner, friend or lover? Go here, click on relationship, and put in your two birthdays. Luckily for us, great partnership is in our stars.

The Watch.  Donald Glover, aka Childish Gambino, is a multi-talented comedy writer/performance artist/rapper/actor/director/record producer who caught the attention of Tina Fey when he was a 23-year old graduate of NYU. She hired him as a comedy writer for SNL and 30 Rock and his career has skyrocketed ever since. His intense, politically charged music video This Is America has been viewed over 250M times so you've probably already seen it. It's jarring, violent, heartbreaking, thought-provoking, and beautiful at the same time. There's nothing childish about this Gambino production. Watch here.

THE WHAT GIVES: FUTURES WITHOUT VIOLENCE

We often hear regrets voiced by friends who wish they had more time to volunteer or give back to their communities. Then life gets in the way, another year goes by, and the wish to do good returns to the backburner. As Founders of The What, our mission has always been very simple: to turn women on to stuff that makes us feel smarter, happier, healthier, and more whole. But beyond helping ourselves, there are few things more satisfying than helping others. Every monthour partner in purpose BOON SUPPLY will mirror our philanthropic feature on their retail site and give 50% (yes, fifty percent) of your purchases to support our cause in THE WHAT GIVES. Boon isn't just doing this for us. Their motto and business model is #everydaygood. They give 50% to a cause of your choosing EVERY day. We are proud to work with our friends Boon to raise awareness about the organizations we care about. This month, we turn our attention to the organization FUTURES WITHOUT VIOLENCE [continued ...]
