Hey there Potty —

Today is a national day of mourning for President George H.W. Bush. There's been a lot of commentary around his life, and it got me to thinking about why certain actions or gestures are so surprising these days.

Is surprise a good thing? Or should we be striving for something else?

"In crucial things, unity; in important things, diversity; in all things, generosity."
– George H.W. Bush

Thanks, and I'll see you on the Internet.

Episode 58: The Unexpected

It's strange how we've become accustomed to the jabs and harshness of life online. The ability to hurl an insult is easier than ever, afforded by the anonymity that a screen supplies.

Which is why it's shocking when we see examples of heliotropic leadership, kindness, and embracing of our foes. And when that comes in the form of a handwritten note, it's all the more poignant.

"Three things are important in human life. The first is to be kind. The second is to be kind. And the third is to be kind."
– Henry James
