Hey y'all,

Here are 10 things I thought were worth sharing this week:

  1. A different way to think about coming up with ideas: "They are not inside you, unable to get out; rather, they are outside of you, unable to get in."

  2. If that doesn't help, a 4-year-old will get you unstuck.

  3. This week I finished Donald Hall's Essays Over Eighty and Ryan Chapman's Riots I Have Known, a novel he compares to a Big Mac

  4. Wonderful, surprising comic by Emma Hunsinger: "How to draw a horse."

  5. From the archives: On jealousy, and why you've got to make an enemy of envy.

  6. Eye candy: Ellsworth Kelly stamps and 119-year-old footage of a solar eclipse.

  7. Ear candy: PJ Harvey and Bjork do "Satisfaction."

  8. Film criticism: I saw John Wick 3 and thought the Wick needed trimming.

  9. Streaming: I've been binge-watching Barry on HBO. (Loved this profile of Bill Hader.) Among other things, the music supervision is great. Highlights of the soundtrack so far: the Charles Bradley intro, James Carr's "The Dark End of the Street," Roxy Music's "Virginia Plain," and BADBADNOTGOOD's "Time Moves Slow" (featuring Sam Herring of Future Islands).

  10. RIP Texas music legend Roky Erickson. (You gotta listen to The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators and Easter Everywhere at least once.)
