We can do hard things

Hello Wonderful.
Here's what's going on today: GP is packing up her family and moving out of the deep 'burbs to be closer to the city. Amy is holding down the fort, following up on dozens of post-conference To Dos and drafting TW's Fall/Winter events calendar. We're back in the saddle searching the world and the web to bring you five fascinating things you should know about. If you love this newsletter as much as we do, please help us grow our community by emailing, posting, tweeting, and shouting from the rooftops. Each new member is a window to wisdom and another friend for the tribe. Please hit Forward and tell five (or 500) friends to subscribe at this link: http://thewhatlist.com.

The What List
October 17, 2018
by Gina Pell + Amy Parker
100% Editorial picks. No pay for play. Ever.

The Book.  While our Fall Reading List is being pruned and polished, we are tucking into The Woman In White. It's a vintage classic written by Wilkie Collins in 1859 and is widely considered to be one of the first mystery novels ever written.

The Podcast.  We were recently guests on our friend Nada Jones' most excellent Liberty podcast which celebrates female entrepreneurs and explores the trials and tribulations behind the brands they build. In Episode #65 we talk about work, friendship, and being Perennial.

The Grief.  This year Amy lost her father to a long struggle with MS and several of our dear friends have lost their mothers in the past few weeks. An article titled A Handbook for Grieving recently appeared in The New York Times. Writer Caroline Grant, who is also a member of our community, captures the grief, surreality, and dark humor that comes with losing someone beloved.

The Healing.  "Hardships are opportunities for growth and learning," says therapist Joyce Marter, LCPC. Learn 14 other coping tactics from therapists about getting through hard times. They're all strategies we're familiar with but great reminders on what to focus on when life throws you a curveball.

The Democracy.  Last night we hosted an event for Represent.Us, an organization that brings together Democrats, Republicans, Independents, and everyone in between. We need to find unity in this country and putting an end to corruption is a topic every party agrees on. Learn more about this organization we support here.

In Support of BRA Day

Many of our personal friends and women in the TWW community are breast cancer survivors. And this month, especially, we honor them. Today is BRA Day - Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day, designed to educate and inform women who have undergone a mastectomy or lumpectomy and are unaware of the reconstruction options available to them. There are so many ways to get involved and community events are happening all over the country. We are thrilled to support Dr. Karen Horton and Keira Kotler as they host the Everviolet BRA Day Fashion Show this evening in San Francisco. It's a complimentary event and we hope you'll join us in closing the loop on breast cancer. Get your tickets here. #BRAday
