The What in the news ...

Hello Wonderful.

We're hustling here at HQ and feeling a little burnt out. We lost some precious souls this summer including victims of yet more insane gun violence. We mourn these losses while trying to balance responsibilities and conjure optimistic energy as we head into the Fall madness. Earlier this week we invited one of our Summit experts, Jen Partridge, to teach us about Tapping (or EFT: emotional freedom technique), a method that combines physical and psychological healing by tapping pressure points and meridians on one's own body while acknowledging fears and repeating phrases aloud. If you've been in chronic physical or mental pain it's definitely worth trying as it quelled our anxieties and provided much relief and peace. Check out Jen's channel here and watch our interview with her below.

THE WHAT LIST

The Recipe.

Want to wow your weekend guests or pamper your own palate? Try making this simple Green Bean and Tuna Salad with Basil Dressing. Fresh, fancy, and fast.

The Read.

GP is back to her book a day reading schedule in preparation for The What Fall Book Review. This week's winner was Oksana, Behave! a book like its eponymous protagonist that is armored with humor and brash behavior but at its core is sensitive, pensive, and melancholy. It's a slim page-turner that follows a self-possessed Ukranian emigree and her idiosyncratic family from her early 90s childhood to present. If you like the show Fleabag, you'll love this character.

The Reel.

Last week in Forbes, we received high praise from contributing writer Hayley Leibson and we're still reeling about it: "I have attended over a hundred conferences and summits, and The What Summit was the most extraordinary summit I have ever attended." Then yesterday another great piece surfaced in C Magazine by Meaghan Clark Tiernan: The What Summit: Two Tastemakers Present A Different Kind of Wellness Retreat. Thank you Hayley and Meaghan. We're grateful for the coverage.

The Road.

Grief Isn't A Pathology. It's An Altered State of Mind. is an insightful article written by the brilliant and compassionate BJ Miller, MD, an assistant clinical professor of medicine at UCSF where he practices and teaches palliative medicine. H/T Brandi for bringing this piece to our attention when we needed it the most.
