View this email in your browser Hey y'all, Here are 10 things I thought were worth sharing this week:  Why you should spend more time searching and less time in the feed.   My new book Keep Going is out now! Here's an excerpt on Artsy: "Having a Messy Art Studio Can Help You as an Artist."    I just finished an awesome first week of the 25-city tour. So many nice people with smart questions. Next week looks awesome, too: Pasadena (a haul, perhaps, for some LA folks, but worth it because I'll be speaking with the wonderful Heather Havrilesky), Phoenix, Portland, and Seattle (a live taping with Chase Jarvis!).   This week I read Jenny Odell's How To Do Nothing, which comes out next week. It would make a great pairing with Rob Walker's The Art of Noticing, which comes out next month. (Do check out Jenny's  work.) Next up for me is Damon Krukowski's Ways of Hearing, based on his acclaimed podcast. (The design of the book reminds me of these classic experimental paperbacks.)    The reporter who wrote about layoffs at the Cleveland Plain Dealer after he was laid off. This New Yorker piece about the decline of the newspaper industry is especially interesting to me because it is about my father-in-law! He went out like a pro. We're so proud of him.     Teenagers or people who know teenagers: The New York Times is running a blackout poetry contest.   I was hesitant to talk to Lifehacker about how I parent, but I really like the way the interview turned out. Very… candid. (My kids continue to inspire and exasperate me in equal measure. Here's Owen drawing at the museum.) Ear candy: I'm playing Kate Bush's The Sensual World over and over. (The new reissues sound really good). James Rhodes playing Satie. Brian Eno's favorite Fela Kuti songs. (Remember: all the Fela Kuti albums are on Bandcamp!) I consider Eno one of my great teachers, so I'll listen to any interview with the man. Eye candy: I thought the first episode of What We Do In the Shadows was a fun riff on the original movie, which I love. (Switching from vampires to zombies: I cannot wait to see Jim Jarmusch's The Dead Don't Die.) RIP filmmaker Agnes Varda. Here's an interview with Sheila Heti in The Believer. Her last film, Faces Places, is streaming on Netflix, and it's great fun. It's also streaming on Kanopy, along with Cleo From 5 to 7. (Check your local library to see if you can get free access with your card.)  Thanks for reading.
