rantnrave:// Not much today as I'm on holiday trying to ski, but then DELTA decided to just take my bag off the plane with others due to the weight of the plane. No heads up. Leaving me stranded with nothing including my heart and diabetes meds. I rant about airlines of because many of them treat their customers like cattle waiting for the slaughter. I'm writing a piece about the airline industry and how little respect most airlines, not all, have for their passengers. Would like to hear your experiences via email. DELTA and UNITED are a major focus, but happy to hear all. I've never quite seen an industry like this. And we live in the age of AMAZON, where things just work... Lots of talk about the fall of publishing for over a decade. Since the early days of the consumer internet, the lack of strategy, and monumental insecurity (FOMO) has plagued publishers of newspapers, magazines, and news-oriented sites. I'm mostly focusing here on the U.S. And it's not an absolute. But in the worst cases, it's caused them to be lambs for lions. Whether the early days of free content on YAHOO or the rumors of revenue splits with APPLE. Then there is a narrative given all the layoffs in publishing that this is also a terrible indicator of health. But I want to push back on this a little. Maybe the IPO and VC fueled growth targets expanded these areas well beyond reality and catered to the hype. Likely they never should have been that big. Sometimes right-sizing is just that. It's a great debate... The new breed of politicians better learn how to compromise. Thinking a lot about AMAZON NYC. Will be back with a measured look in a few days. My father used to say, "it's never about what it's about." Looking a lot like that in the early moments... My girl is right, the BLACK PANTHER soundtrack is literally perfect. A masterpiece... A wormhole just opened up in the universe. I agreed with ANN COULTER on something. The MANGO MUSSOLINI is an idiot... OMFG. ADIDAS, really?... Happy Birthday to JENNIFER RAINES, MILES BECKETT, DAVID RABIN, TED ZAGAT

RETRO READ: HBO, The Conqueror
by MediaREDEF
Though it started small and with no original programming of its own, HBO grew to the point in which it dominated the last two decades of cable television. But to remain atop the Iron Throne, the company will need to change and grow. This isn't the War of Five Kings, but of dozens of would-be usurpers – many of whom are backed by untold billions and orthogonal business models. Here, REDEF covers where HBO is today and how it got there, who it now competes against, and the moves it needs to make.

The Westminster Dog Show Is The Past And Future Of Obsessive Dog Ownership
by Dvora Meyers
I really don't know anything about dogs despite having owned one for the past six years. That's actually not true, but it's easy to feel self-conscious about your own knowledge of dogs after spending a full day at the Westminster Dog and Kennel Show, which wrapped up last night in New York.

by Travis Clark
From Marvel's "Black Panther" to DC's "Aquaman," superheroes dominated Hollywood in 2018. But as Dark Horse -- the home of comic books like "Hellboy" and "The Umbrella Academy" -- looks to escalate its movie and TV output, it doesn't think of itself as a "superhero" company.

Would Tony Soprano Be a MAGA Guy?
by Miles Klee
Is Tony pro-Trump? If so, would he vote for him? It's a divisive, surprisingly complicated question that's consumed the 'Sopranos' fandom, the greatest television series in the history of the medium, is so baroque and richly layered that we're still teasing out its ambiguities more than a decade after the final episode aired.

How YouTube reactionaries are breaking the news media
by ZoΓ« Beery
Late last month, Virginia legislators tried to expand abortion access with a long-shot bill-HB 2491-that would strike down two medically-unnecessary restrictions. But headlines didn't stay focused on the facts for long: mainstream media outlets soon found themselves tasked instead with debunking claims that the legislation would legalize infanticide.
