Your Secret Nationality? A Quiz.

Hello Wonderful.
Last night we watched Eating Animals, a documentary that shows the brutal origins of mass-produced American meat. Narrated and produced by Natalie Portman, the film explores the ethical and environmental toll that factory farming has on our bodies and nature. Die-hard carnivores, as we once were, will often protest eating less meat because they crave the flavor or don't feel full unless they eat animal protein. But, once they see diseased, sore-ridden, pus-filled animals (despite being pumped with antibiotics) making their way into America's favorite restaurants, fast-food chains, and grocery stores it should give even the most ardent flesh-lover pause. You don't have to quit eating meat unless you want to but you should see this film if you plan on taking another bite.

The Quiz.  Amy was sure she was Italian. Gina assumed she was Korean. To their delight and surprise, turns out both are Congolese. Either way, neither of their countries made it to the World Cup finals. What's Your Secret Nationality?

The Shop.  Bulletin is a women-led boutique where reasonably priced products are sourced from female-run companies. Best of all, 10% of the proceeds this month go to Planned Parenthood.

The Listen. Thanks to our sisters at Live FAST Magazine for turning us on to Georgi Kay, currently on rotation at TW HQ. If you like Lorde, Bishop Briggs, or Yael Naim chances are you'll also be a fan.

The Libation. Tired of rosΓ©? Our friend Rachael got us hooked on Lambrusco, an effervescent red wine served chilled. We like ours dry and served with crushed ice on a hot day.

The Summit.  Tickets to our very first The What Summit, an all-woman all-day connection and well-being event October 5, 2018, may not last through the summer. Secure your spot here

THE ESSENTIALS

with SUSAN GRIFFIN-BLACK

Pure lavender essential oil is the scent that first inspired EO Founder, Susan Griffin-Black, to start working with essential oils. Today, Susan shares her favorite uses for lavender and why it's one of her all-time favorite scents.

"The first time I encountered lavender essential oil, it captivated me with its honesty. Just a single drop on my palm evoked a world of aliveness–green grasses, sweet blossoms, herbal mystique, and tantalizing spiciness enveloped my senses. Before I could form a thought I was feeling an overwhelming sense of calm and connection.

My favorite way to use lavender essential oil is simply on the shower floor. I put a few drops where the hot water is sure to hit and let the warm, aromatherapeutic steam soothe my body, mind, and spirit. I also use it in a diffuser as a way to help fall asleep. Lavender is one of the only essential oils that is safe to use directly on your skin, and I will often use it for kitchen burns, bug bites, any skin irritation.  I will sometimes put a drop or two on the inside collar of my top or jacket to help my mood during potentially tense meetings.

The easiest way to add a little lavender to your life is to use a product made with lavender essential oil. Using a body washhand soaphand sanitizershampoo, or deodorant made with pure lavender essential oil can give you all the calming benefits of lavender without having to take an additional step. Lavender will always be one of my first loves, and continues to be my go-to scent for nearly every occasion. Join an active discussion on The What Women and tell us how you like to use lavender or your favorite scents/essential oils.
