The piano-rocker scored a trio of Top 40 hits in the '00s with "Superman (It's Not Easy)," "100 Years" and "The Riddle," from a pair of platinum albums, and continues to write for other artists, including the Backstreet Boys and Josh Groban. He's also a huge hockey fan, who writes articles for Sports Illustrated and for his hometown L.A. Kings — which explains the name Five for Fighting, which refers to the five-minute penalty doled out by the NHL for brawling on the ice.
